We are delighted to be attending the SEDA Spring Conference - Understanding and improving the student experience: making a real difference in the new age of metrics.
Whatever our personal opinions on the TEF outcomes and process, there is no doubt that it has focused attention on the ‘student experience’. This conference will focus on how we can both understand and improve that experience in ways which may offer more fundamental educational advantages than the simple metrics of systems like the NSS and the TEF. As a result, it will be of value to academic staff, programme/course leaders, educational developers, and support staff across a very wide range of institutions. This will also benefit colleagues in Further Education where new systems of measurement and review are also under discussion. Our general theme is of course relevant to everyone in post-compulsory education and we particularly welcome contributions from outside the UK which can offer a comparative perspective.

FREE PUBLIC LECTURE
The Role of ePortfolios in Medical and Health Education
Visiting academic Paul Duvall will share his experiences with introducing an eportfolio platform into a new medical curriculum at the University of Liverpool. The new curriculum was launched in 2014 and now, four years on, the eportfolio system is embedded in almost every element of the curriculum, throughout all years, covering approximately 1500 students. It also enables over 1000 clinical staff to interact with the programme and deliver student supervision, as well as supporting university processes such as progression review and personal tutoring.
While Paul will speak to his experiences within medicine, many of his examples of use will be equally relevant to other health disciplines. These include mapping the requirements of the curriculum against online workbooks, online and offline recording of student activity, digital verification from clinicians in any environment, remote monitoring of student activity, and the creation of a learning design that facilitates both a formative and summative approach.
Paul will also discuss more broadly what ‘eportfolio practice’ looks like within the health education context and how this might be different to the understanding of eportfolios in other discipline areas.
Anyone with an interest in eportfolios in medical and health education is invited to attend.

WORKSHOP
Embedding PebblePad into your Medical (or Health) Curriculum
This hands-on workshop is for anyone who is using, or wanting to use, PebblePad within their Medical or Health-related curriculum. Building on the morning lecture, Paul will provide examples of the use of PebblePad across the medical curriculum at the University of Liverpool. He will then facilitate a series of activities that will provide participants with the opportunity to consider how PebblePad could be embedded into their own programs, drawing upon his experiences to identify and work through the possible challenges while maximising the potential benefits. This workshop will focus on some of the day-to-day learning design and administrative considerations associated with larger scale, program-wide eportfolio implementation.
NOTE: While Paul’s experience is within Medicine, many of the learning activities and assessment processes supported by PebblePad are equally relevant to other Health disciplines. Representatives from across the Health Education context are welcome to attend.

This day is a great opportunity to share practice and to see how PebblePad is being used in health for teaching, learning and assessment. Previously held over half a day, due to the large amount of innovative use we currently have we have extended this to a full day. Use in clinical assessment continues to grow and now has a community of users, a workshop will be open to anyone to join. Preparation for the requirements of professional healthcare roles is also a theme for the design of resources at programme level and as a 'take away' Nurse Revalidation is one example. We are seeing more and more skills teaching and assessment being managed in PebblePad and PebblePocket. The event is open to anyone and we’ve lowered attendance costs to £50.00* to encourage delegates to stay over and attend MiniBash (UK) the following day.
*Price applicable for attending Healthcare Symposium and MiniBash UK 2018. Otherwise, a price of £65.00 applies.

As ever, MiniBash UK is set to be jam-packed with 'not to be missed goodness' and designed to be big on value - no matter whether you are forced to arrive a little late or leave a little early (though, don't forget, our drinks reception is one very good reason to stay till the close of play).
MiniBash UK is always very popular as it's a chance for our community to catch up and share ideas over coffee and cake. So we do recommend that you're quick off the mark in signing up - doing so will also mean you can take advantage of our early bird pricing.

The theme of this year’s conference is scaling-up, though many of you may prefer to think of this in terms of moving to the next level. Our intention is to reflect the growing maturity of practice with portfolios, portfolio-inspired learning and teaching, and the platforms that support these approaches. We have observed that the institutions and organisations we work with are grappling with a growing list of challenges to which technologies like ours seem to provide an effective answer - especially when deployed thoughtfully, and at scale.
We are seeking submissions that talk to the transition from small scale, often single-point use of PebblePad to uses which are more fully-integrated into the wider learning experience. We are particularly interested in showcasing and celebrating successful program-wide or institution-wide projects. Like all previous ‘Bashes there will be a strong focus on pedagogy, especially on learning and assessment design. But it is impossible to really scale up without senior stakeholder involvement, strategic planning, good project management, and having carefully thought through integrations with other institutional systems – so we would like to include presentations which consider ideas, challenges and successes from these perspectives.
Of course, we know that scaling up means different things to different people in different contexts. We are also aware that some people are doing remarkable work at smaller scale and so we will also provide space in the programme to showcase the very best of this work.
Here are some key dates for your diary:
Deadline for submissions - Thursday, 29th March 2018
