We are thrilled to announce that, in partnership with two of our wonderful Australian customers, we have won two Platinum LearnX Impact Awards. Congratulations are in order for the Griffith University Personal Learning Environment team and the Murdoch University Bachelor of Nursing team for being recognised as Platinum winners in the 2018 Awards for their hugely successful PebblePad implementations. On hearing the fantastic news, PebblePad’s Chief Mischief Maker and Founder, Shane Sutherland, said: “I couldn’t be less surprised, or more delighted. The use of PebblePad in Australia has always been innovative, with hundreds of exceptional teachers using the platform to transform learning and assessment practice in Higher Education. However, what we have witnessed in recent years is this kind of inventive, but purposeful practice, being scaled up across entire programmes and whole universities. These LearnX Award successes validate what we have known for some time – put an experience-centred platform in the hands of creative educators and remarkable things happen - I couldn’t be more delighted for everyone involved.”

The whole-of-course eportfolio approach implemented within the Bachelor of Nursing has had a significant impact on students as they progress through their degree, helping them to see the course more holistically, scaffolding them through their learning and providing a platform to reflect, build and evidence achievements. This work represents a best practice model for us here at Murdoch

Murdoch University - Best Blended Learning Model

Nursing eportfolio blended learning - real-world learning to build world ready capacity

Murdoch’s entry focussed on their learning design which embeds eportfolio into the Bachelor of Nursing program across the three years of their nursing education. Initially the approach involved face-to-face alongside PebblePad delivery, but internet connectivity issues became apparent in some clinical environments so use of the PebblePad app, PebblePocket, was added for its offline capacity. The aim of the model is to support students in taking responsibility for their own learning, in developing and recording employability skills, clinical competencies and capabilities and provide them with digital literacy skills in a professional context.

The team’s hugely successful approach had already been acknowledged within the University, with the staff members being awarded a Vice Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence in Enhancing Learning. Having their learning model and implementation of PebblePad recognised more broadly via the Learn X Impact Awards is a fantastic and much-deserved achievement.

Griffith University - Best People and Culture Team

Employing an Innovative Model for Educational Technology Implementation in Higher Education

The focus of this award is on a highly talented team who have managed an end-to-end people and culture strategy that had significant impact on organisational culture. The Personal Learning Environment Core Team, brought together to manage Griffith’s institution-wide PebblePad implementation, employed a highly collaborative Agile-based approach that has now been adopted for other projects in the University. The Core Team led the implementation by working closely with two broader groups – the Key Supporters (41 professional staff and academics) and the Innovators (90 academics), allowing key staff members across the organisation to take ownership of the implementation at a local level.

The successful implementation was dependent on collaboration across the University and a true partnership with PebblePad. Together we were able to meet the existing needs of our learning and teaching community while innovating new ways of actively engaging students across their programs.

This collaborative approach ensured a ‘learning together’ mindset which initiated cultural change that centres on openness and trust. The value of working in partnership is a view wholly supported by our very own Alison Poot, Australian PebblePad Director: "We take great pride in working in close partnership with our customers and these awards are a wonderful recognition of this approach. We are delighted that the Murdoch and Griffith teams have been rewarded for their excellent PebblePad implementations and the passion they bring to improving teaching and learning and student outcomes at their universities".

The PLE Core Team has led the successful implementation of PebblePad in support of the Griffith Employability strategy. Providing this type of environment for all students enables transformative practices in the design of degree programs and courses. The Team's collaborative approach saw them partnering with our Academic Groups to ensure academics could offer their students engaging learning experiences within PebblePad. I am very pleased with their success.

About the LearnX Impact Awards

Now in its 11th year, the LearnX Impact Awards is an international awards program that recognises multiple fields within talent management across the corporate, education and public-service sectors. Each year the Awards uncover projects and solutions that deliver best practice and business value. In 2018, winning countries included Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Germany and France. The LearnX Awards will be presented at the LearnX Live! Summit and Awards event in Melbourne on 30 October.

Why not submit an entry for the 2019 awards?

The 2019 awards will open mid-November 2018, and with so much terrific PebblePad practice out there we would encourage customers from all territories to consider submitting an entry. We are keen to work closely with entrant teams in preparing entries, and will put out a call for expression of interest once the categories are announced.

Jodie is Assistant Head of Communications, and Content Specialist and Editor here at PebblePad. An experienced educator, talented writer, and a genius at simplifying the complicated, Jodie spends her days planning, crafting and publishing content for the PebblePad community and wider higher education audiences. Outside of work, Jodie is a published poet, and in honour of her Aussie heritage (the lucky devil is based in Melbourne) our Head of Brand & Communications, Rich Dando, considered recrafting this profile into a poem but quickly came unstuck trying to find a word to rhyme with kangaroo. Unlike Rich, Jodie isn’t quite so easily derailed, and you'll see her expert stamp on many of our hugely popular publications.
