I have a passion for enabling education and that of course fits with my choice to undertake the Post-Grad in E-Health.
I moved to Mackay in February 2007 to take up a position with Queensland Health as the District Librarian for Mackay Health Service District (MHSD). Recently, I spent three months seconded to the position of Medical Education Officer for the District. I have thoroughly enjoyed the change and I have learnt and shared a lot. My long-term plans are to move to Brisbane, remaining with Queensland Health working part-time and spend more time with racing. For me, the ideal work/life balance.
I have had a varied work/life prior to moving to Mackay. I grew up in Hobart (Sandy Bay) Tasmania, moved to Yuendumu, a traditional Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory for four years from 1984. I returned to Hobart in 1988 for a year but missed the N.T. and moved back there, initially “out bush” again and then in Alice Springs.
I have a strong administrative and management background. I undertook a traineeship (as an adult) with the Arid Zone Research Institute (AZRI), initially as a library technician and then as a librarian. During that time, I had second and third part-time library based positions with various Aboriginal organisations and other scientific Government organisations.
I moved to Nhulunbuy in 1998 as the Library Manager of a joint public-high school library (a real learning curve – very different from the special library environment!). I then moved back to Alice Springs after securing the Library Manager position at AZRI. In 2002, I moved to Cairns were I worked for James Cook University as the Off Campus Liaison Librarian – a great position with lots of travel providing support to students and staff at JCU campuses outside Cairns and Townsville and distance students. I only moved to Mackay as one of my long-term goals was to work within health and I saw the MHSD position advertised.
The following describes me pretty well – for me, it is the best of the personality assessments that I have come across … sounds just like me!
Personality - Goldsmith's Innovation / Implementation Index (G3I) Score: 118 Explanation: 105-120 are Networkers, who are team players and positive thinkers. They don‘t get bored easily and are calculated risk takers. These empathic individuals are tolerant and can lead in extreme situations. They are innovative in practical ways and like real challenges. Their need to shake things up can be a disadvantage as can their need to achieve consensus. They tend to be impatient and demand innovation from their people. Networkers follow their own agendas and often forget about their own needs.
