ALIA/AeP2 Pilot Study

Past - Present - Future

he tangata, he tangata, he tangata

Learning and professional development play a strong and fundamental part in the career journey of any information professional. Imagine a tool that can assist you to do this. One that can guide and help you to actively learn, reflect, network and develop your skills. ePortfolios are such a tool.

PebblePad is one of the many ePortfolios available and is currently being used by participants in the ALIA/AeP2 Pilot Study. The Pilot Study lead by Associate Professor Gillian Hallam explores the use of ePortfolios in learning and career development across a range of library and information services (LIS) (Hallam). The objective for individuals in the group is to develop an ePortfolio that focuses on career planning, PD and performance reviews.

For the majority of participants the study began in February 2009 with our attendance at the Australian ePortfolio Symposium (AeP2) in Brisbane. This international symposium was a lead up to the pilot study and gave attendees a broad understanding of the context and potential for ePortfolios in both education and career development.

Participants are at various stages of their careers and all bring a unique level of expertise and experience to the study. There are students and new graduates, library and information professionals in the later stages of their careers and educators. Geographically the group is located all over Australia including Katherine, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Mackay and South East Queensland.
