Interoperability

From the start of the development of PebblePad we have been working with CETIS (the Centre for Educational Technology Interoperability Standards) to not only ensure that PebblePad is as interoperable as possible but also to help to influence the developing standards.

InteroperabilityThe PebblePad team are involved at a technical level with the CETIS Learner Information Package group who are developing the UK standards for interoperability. The standards are still evolving so we can’t claim to have a standards compliant system but then neither can anyone else! However, we are committed to full compliance with all of the relevant standards because we can’t claim to have a system which supports life-long learning if we are unable to export and import records to and from other ePortfolio systems.

Areas under development include interoperability with the SITs student management system (currently the market leader in the UK HE sector); exporting resources as PDF files, and creating an archive of an ePortfolio for export to media such as CD-ROM or DVD.

Below is a document which details the mapping of PebblePad assets to the UKDevLIP specification and an example of XML output from the export system currently in development, which currently exports all types of PebblePad assets except for files and WebFolios.

You can also download the PebblePad Interoperability tipsheet, which outlines the way in which pebblePad communicates with other systems and services.

Moodle Block

There is also a new Moodle Block which has been developed by Pebble Learning to enable Moodle users to export items directly into their PebblePad account. Users can sign into Moodle and move to their PebblePad account without the need to sign in again.
